For Lawyers
As lawyers, in an increasingly competitive world, the pressure is on to record billable hours and meet your billing targets
When do you take the time out to:
- stand back and look at where you are
- consider where your career is going
- consider whether you’re really doing the work that you want and enjoy or
- set goals for yourself?
Those thoughts, if they occur at all, probably languish somewhere with that pile of reading that you’ve set aside to do, “when I have a moment”.
Yet, they’re the very thoughts you need to prioritise. They underpin your happiness and well-being, professionally and personally.
Coaching is a very cost effective and focussed way of developing people. The return on investment can be huge. Happy people perform well. If you and your people perform better, your profits will increase.
Partners in law firms, like Senior Executives in the corporate environment, occupy a lonely position. People turn to you for answers and guidance. You may not have anyone to turn to, to discuss issues of personal or professional importance to you, in confidence and free of office politics.
The same is true for sole practitioners, including barristers. Whom do you turn to when you need to talk over your pressures and work challenges? Whom can you turn to?
Having someone with whom you can talk openly and frankly can make all the difference to you in your ability to address challenges that you’re facing at work or in other areas of your life. I can:
- Facilitate the easing of difficulties with other lawyers or partners
- Clarify vision, values etc
- Help the coaching client learn how to be more effective.
Unlike mentors within the firm:
- An executive coach offers you an opportunity
to talk openly and frankly about what is on your mind – confidentiality
is paramount.
- An executive coach is objective and impartial.
- Your coach has time dedicated to you – your coach won’t be distracted by the pressures of running a busy department or managing other staff members.
If you represent a law firm, manage a team of facilitators, run a learning and development environment or if you’re an individual who is interested in coaching from a fellow legal professional, please:
